GeriZyme™


GeriZyme™
provides Catalase  (Aspergillus niger, var.), the enzyme that converts hydrogen peroxide to water. Catalase is highly specific for the metabolism of hydrogen peroxide. If Catalase is not produced in sufficient enough quantities, hydrogen peroxide is converted to the toxic hydroxyl radical which destroys cell membranes and causes eventual damage to the joint.

GeriZyme™
provides Zinc and Copper, the nutrients required for natural production and activity of SuperOxide Dismutase (SOD). SOD is the free radical scavenging enzyme that converts the SuperOxide ion to the less toxic hydrogen peroxide. These two minerals are required for activity in cytoplasm (the interior of the prokaryotic cell which is a watery fluid rich in dissolved salts, nutrients, enzymes and other molecules). Manganese is required for its activity in mitochondria (the small, membrane bound cellular structure responsible for converting nutrients into the energy-yielding compound; adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Zinc. Copper and Manganese are also required for the activation of Catalase.

GeriZyme™
provides Selenium and Vitamin E, the nutrients essential for the activity of Glutathione Peroxidase (GSH-PX). GSH-PX is the enzyme that also converts hydrogen peroxide to water and is the sweeper enzyme that metabolizes any hydrogen peroxide missed by Catalase. Even more importantly, Glutathione Peroxidase allows the repair of cell membranes back to their original status following free radical damage. Selenium is essential for the activity of Glutathione Peroxidase, and Vitamin E for converting peroxy fatty acid free radicals (PUFAO2) to non-toxic hydroxy fatty acid alcohols.

GeriZyme™provides patented OptiZinc®, a 1:1 complex of Zinc Methionine. Unlike inorganic zinc, which is poorly, absorbed, OptiZinc is absorbed easily and does not adversely affect the copper levels, which are required for SOD activity. Methionine is a sulfur containing amino acid that helps protect tissues against free radical attack. OptiZinc prevents free radical formation by protecting biomolecules from oxidation and limiting their production. Animal studies show that OptiZinc stimulates growth, enhances immunity and improves health overall.

GeriZyme™ provides other nutritional cofactors such as Vitamin A as Beta Carotene the nutrient necessary to protect the cells from the free radical action of rancid fats. B-complex vitamins are involved in a number of enzymatic reactions including lipid, protein and carbohydrate catabolism. Vitamin C protects polyunsaturated lipids in the spinal cord from peroxidation and free radical attack. Vitamin D, Iron and Magnesium are enzyme-producing agents. Choline and Inositol prevent lipid peroxidation.
